Talk about an underrated player.Man,this cat can flat out bring it. I saw him play with michel camilo and he burned it up.

I agree about Joel. He got the Spyro gig, and I think just kinda settled into that comfortable gig, and didnt get a whole lot of exposure. It's a funny thing - Morgenstein was saying in a drum clinic I saw back in '97 about advertising yourself. He said that if you're not actively pushing yourself, like with endorsement advertisements, etc.... you can kind of get forgotten. This was after he told us how Beavis and Butthead single handedly destroyed the band Winger, as well as many other late 80's glam-rock bands. (... Yeah.. Yeah... Winger Sucks... Uh Huh....)

I think guys like Danny Gottleib, Joel, Chester, etc.... have gotten a nice stable gig, and dont really feel the need to be front and center all the time.....

How? Wasn't a big B&Bhead fan... Did they over play or ridicule them in MTV fashion until America's impressionable youth believed the hype, bombardment, and ever changing paradigm of what "cool" is?

Yeah, it was pretty funny to see Rod get visibly pissed, describing "these grunge guys in work boots and flannel shirts", while the sound tech for his clinic standing 10 feet away from him was wearing..... work boots and a flannel shrit!

I just think the 80's glam rock thing became a parody of itself, and then Kurt Cobain came along and popped the whole industry, along with all those bands. I do think, however, that there were a ton of great musicians in the glam rock bands. I was in Myrtle Beach this August, coming up from the pool with my 2 year old son, and who do we ride up in the elevator with, but Tommy Aldrige. Whitesnake was playing House of Blues, Myrtle Beach, and they were staying at that hotel, which was nice, but there certainly wasnt the fanfare and entourage there would have been in the late 80's. Man, Tommy's been around awhile, but I think he's still an amazing player. As iss Adrian Vandenberg and Steve Vai.

Joel is a great player... he didn't get to stretch as much in Spyro as he gets to on the Camilo stuff; & because Spyo was primarily a "pop-jazz" band, for the most part, i had overlooked him WAY back when AW [img]redface.gif[/img] ]...
...Saw Gottl w/ Jeff Berlin's group "open" for CCEB1Reu last Oct; & they both sa-mohhked [duh]...
...I also heard Rod talk about how the Seattle sound, the overdone/beat-to-death '80's horse, & Beav&Butth destroyed their careers [Yep, you got it, Pocket [& benny]...

Man, i would have loved to see Joel with Michel Camilo. I saw Joel in a clinic and he can seriously throw down, WAY underrated. Speaking of exposure he mentioned how he turned down a "name" pop gig with Cher because he didn't feel the situation suited him. He said he wasn't about the drums way up on the stage and the showman stuff and all that, stick twirls, etc. He just wants to play. I give him credit for turning down that kind of money to keep playing what he feels is important. He is a monster player and does deserve more attention but it doesn't sound like he really cares too much for the attention, just wants to play. He is a badass whether his name is in the forefront or not.

Weckl and Rosenblatt were roommates at the Univ of Bridgeport.

Great drummer. I always felt that he sounded like Weckl but looser, which is cool if you're into to that. They pretty much played the same licks and had that same drum sound early on. It sounds like Joel is coming into his own now.
